Enjoy Your AFS Benefits Order DVD’s or VCR Tapes from your AFS Library
Listed below are some of the DVD’s or VCR’s that are currently
available for use at a branch meeting. The procedure for getting the
video or DVD (this also applies to books and slides) is to send $5.00
postage and packaging fee and a $25.00 deposit for all library items.
The deposit will be returned to you when the article is returned to
the library. It doesn’t matter if you make out the deposit check to
AFS, but the mailing fee ($5.00) should be made out to me, B.R. Mc-Whirter, so I can cash it to put the money back in my library account.
Some of this year’s best choices would be one of the following:
Hummingbirds Up Close: 55 Minutes (DVD & VCR)
This videotape is loaded with interesting facts about hummingbirds
and is a guide to enjoying the 15 species of hummingbirds
that live north of the Rio Grande. You’ll see male hummingbirds
in dazzling courtship flight, females tending their delicate nests,
and slow motion sequences of the tiny birds catching insects in
mid-air. It shows you how to bring these exciting birds to your
home flowers and feeders. This video can be divided at 19:40 minutes
into the video and shown at two separate meetings. (USA)
Fuchsiana: 10 minutes (DVD & VCR)
This AFS history video features Mark MacDougall telling of
AFS history while showing some of the old time favorite fuchsias
growing in his garden. He tells some of the history of the
varieties. (USA). This video goes good with the Breeding Fuchsias
video because Mark narrates the Victor Reiter video.
Breeding Fuchsias w/Victor Reiter Jr.: 22 minutes (DVD & VCR)
This AFS history oriented tape is about the life of Victor Reiter
Jr., one of the American Fuchsia Society’s pioneer fuchsia breeders
from 1920 to 1960.
The Hanging Baskets of Victoria: 45 minutes (DVD & VCR)
Every year thousands of tourists marvel at the beauty of Victoria’s
Hanging Flower Baskets. This video shows you the beauty of these
hanging baskets but also shows you step by step how to create these
magnificent hanging flower baskets with world renowned gardener
Brian Minter. This video covers plants, basket soil and moss selection,
planting techniques, care and fertilizing and suggestions
for alternate plants. This can be adapted for using fuchsias as one
of the plants within the basket. After viewing this you may want to
do a hanging basket yourself or the club may wish too. (Canadian)
In January or February you might want to consider showing The Art of Growing Fuchsias.
The Art of Growing Fuchsias: 58 minutes (DVD & VCR)
This is a comprehensive video which shows you how to
grow, care for and create the right environment for you fuchsias.
There are instructions for propagation, cultivation, potting,
pinching, pruning and much more. Pamela Hantgin
shares her secrets with us so we can be expert fuchsia growers.
Treat your branch to a video or DVD. Reserve you video
