FUCHSIA PLANT DISPLAY WINS BLUE RIBBON at Humboldt County Fair!
Fifteen fuchsia plants grown by Dewell and Elsa Byrd, Jean Durbin, Ethel and Terri Hebert, Vina Simmons and Nora Wilson were beautifully displayed in large pots for ten days at the Humboldt County Fair, Ferndale in the Flower House. Dolly and Joshua Lockett, Eileen Fahey and Lyn Fisher also helped set up the display. Plants were set on upside down big pots or stands to best display plants to the judges and for public viewing during the fair. The fuchsia blossom display table was outstanding and interesting. The blossoms always get lots of "ahs” and “I didn't know there are so many different shapes, colors and sizes.” Ethel and Terri Hebert, Dewell and Elsa Byrd, Jean Durbin, Ernestine Shaha, Eileen Fahey, George and Helen Peck and Nora Wilson provided blossoms throughout the fair. We helped Bonnie Austin make the flower house a visual pleasure to the fair attendees and gardeners from everywhere. Many fairgoers were envious of how beautiful and how easily flowers grow in our North Coast climate. (God's Country) The comradery in setting up and working at the Fair is always great, plus meeting the many interesting people attending, and to share our gardening experiences.
The Plant Sale at the Fair was also great. We sold ALL but a dozen! Over 600 plants were sold, provided by Jean Durbin, Ethel and Terri Hebert, Eileen Fahey, Helen Peck, and Mark Danner. Priced from $1 to $35, obviously depending on the plant size. Ten-inch plastic pots with hangers, bamboo stakes, 2007 Fuchsia calendars from New Zealand, and fuchsia print note cards were also sold.
