Mary Hassett January 29, 1927 - June 15, 2006 Mary hassett

Mary Hassett collapsed from a massive heart attack in her new home in Jacksonville, Arkansas. She had moved there just a month earlier to be close to her daughter, Rebecca. It was difficult to leave the home in Eureka she had shared with Chuck for thirty-two years but being close to family was also important. Mary grew up in Brookings, Oregon, where she met and married Chuck Hassett. They traveled extensively because of Chuck's career in the military, but they chose Eureka as the place to retire. AFS members knew Mary because of her and Chuck's active involvement in the American Fuchsia Society. But Mary also served and supported the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Eureka Chamber Music Series, Eureka Sequoia Garden Club, Eureka Women's Club and Eureka Republican Women. Mary was kind, gracious, loving and supportive: a true lady. Today's world is poorer with her passing.
